Setting up an MSLN E-Mail Account with Microsoft Outlook Express

This document will familiarize you with the procedure for setting up an MSLN E-Mail account for use with the Microsoft Outlook Express E-Mail Client.

Creating a New Account Using the Internet Connection Wizard from Outlook Express:

Step 1. Open Outlook Express

Step 2. Open the "Tools" menu and click "Accounts".

Step 3.
Click the "Add" button, and then click "Mail".

Step 4. Enter your full name in the "Display Name" field and click "Next".

Step 5. Enter your complete e-mail address in the "E-Mail Address" field and click "Next".

Step 6. Select "POP3" from the drop-down list box if it is not already selected. Enter "mail.msln.net" for both incoming and outgoing server names.

Step 7. Enter the name of the e-mail account in the "Account Name" field. Your account name will be the segment of your complete e-mail address before the "at" (@) symbol. For example, if my email address were "me@msln.net", then my account name would be "me". Compare screenshots from steps 5 and 7 to see another example. You can optionally tell Outlook Express to remember your e-mail account password if you check the "Remember Password" checkbox and enter your password in the "Password" field.

Step 8. You have reached the end of the account setup wizard. You can now click the "Finish" button and check your e-mail account by pressing the "Send/Recv" button on the toolbar in Outlook Express.

If You Still Can't Access Your E-Mail Account:

Step 1. From within Outlook Express, open the "Tools" menu and then click "Accounts".

Step 2. Click "mail.msln.net" from the list and then click the "Properties" button to the right.

Step 3. Ensure that the "E-Mail Address" field is filled in with your complete and correct e-mail address.

Step 4. Click the "Servers" tab near the top of the window just under the title bar. Ensure both incoming and outgoing server names are listed as "mail.msln.net". Ensure your account name is entered correctly. Remember, account names consist of only the first part of your complete email address (the segment before the '@' symbol). If you have entered your password as well then verify you have entered it correctly. All e-mail account passwords are case-sensitive. If the grayed-out box underneath "Server Information" displays "IMAP" instead of "POP3" then click the "OK" button at the bottom of the window, click the "Close" button at the bottom of the accounts window, and proceed to step 7.

Step 5. Click on the "Advanced" tab. The outgoing and incoming server port numbers should be 25 and 110 respectively. The "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" checkboxes should be unchecked for both incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP).

Step 6. Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the window. Click the close button at the bottom of the accounts window. Try clicking on the send and receive button in the Outlook Express toolbar to check your e-mail. If you still cannot access your e-mail account, proceed to step 7.

Step 7. Open the "Tools" menu and click "Accounts". Click on the "mail.msln.net" account to highlight it, then click the "Remove" button to the right. When prompted to remove the account click "Yes" and repeat steps 1-8 under "Creating a New Account Using the Internet Connection Wizard from Outlook Express."

Step 8. If you still cannot access your e-mail account, contact the MSLN helpdesk.
